India was among the Charter Members of the United Nations that signed the Declaration by United Nations in Washington, D.C., on January 1, 1942, and also participated in the United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco from April 25 to June 26, 1945. As a founding member of the United Nations, India strongly supports the purposes and principles of the UN and has made significant contributions to implementing the goals of the Charter and the evolution of the UN’s specialized programs and agencies.
India has contributed over 250,000 troops to 49 UN peacekeeping missions since 1948, making it one of the largest troop-contributing countries. Indian peacekeepers have played pivotal roles in missions in countries like Congo, South Sudan, and Lebanon, demonstrating India’s commitment to global peace and security.
In 2023, India contribute 6073 personnel in UN peacekeeping mission. Amost double than all five permanent members of UNSC.
