United Nations Charter

The Charter of the United Nations is the founding document of the United Nations. It was signed on 26 June 1945, in San Francisco, at the conclusion of the United Nations Conference on International Organization, and came into force on 24 October 1945.

India was among the Charter Members of the United Nations that signed the Declaration by United Nations in Washington, D.C., on January 1, 1942, and also participated in the United Nations Conference on International Organization in San Francisco from April 25 to June 26, 1945. As a founding member of the United Nations, India strongly supports the purposes and principles of the UN and has made significant contributions to implementing the goals of the Charter and the evolution of the UN’s specialized programs and agencies.
